Sarah Beeny

A lot can be said for how your first role shapes the rest of your career.

And leading property and interiors expert, Sarah Beeny, can certainly relate to that – having revealed that she owes so much to a company called Vorwerk.

The TV star first worked for German home appliance maker, Vorwerk, at the tender age of 19.

She enjoyed her time there so much that she has since re-joined the team as its brand ambassador.

Rolling back the years to 1991 when Sarah was – she admits – not as confident a direct sales advisor as she was when she left Vorwerk, Sarah built up her confidence and worked hard to earn her stripes by selling the company’s high-quality vacuum cleaner through in-home demonstrations.

Those experiences of being her own boss, working flexible hours, and enjoying the fruits of her labour have never left her throughout her meteoric rise to fame on the small screen.

In fact, Sarah still uses Vorwerk’s vacuum cleaners to this day – she’s got two machines she uses at home and even sold the vacuum to the Duchess of Wellington!

There’s also a further 10 Vorwerk vacuums being used on a daily basis at the stunning Rise Hall – a Grade II listed venue she and husband Graham Swift saved from dereliction following her programme ‘Sarah Beeny’s Restoration Nightmare’.

The star of TV’s Four Rooms, Double Your House for Half the Money, and How to Live Mortgage Free has been an advocate of Vorwerk for more than 20 years since working as a sales advisor. She positively attributes the experience gained while working at Vorwerk as a real enabler in her career ever since.

Not only did it help improve her self-assurance, she also believes that it has made her much more resilient and taught her the all important value of perseverance – something that anyone starting out in a career on TV needs. It gave her the confidence to deal with people from all walks of life – especially when selling to the Duchess of Wellington.

Speaking about her time in the role, the training, support and experiences she gained have been held out as real assets that she took to her next phase of life and media career.

Sarah’s love for Vorwerk has never really left her. She’s always been keen to stress how much of an impact Vorwerk has had on her incredible TV and business career.

Teaming up with Vorwerk last year to support the launch of online sales of the Kobold VK200 – which has Good Housekeeping Institute Approved Status – Sarah has been involved in Vorwerk’s social media platforms and continues to highlight the brand’s products and activity as it expands across the UK.

“Having worked with Vorwerk recently, I was delighted to team up with them in a wider role and support their work in the UK to raise the profile of the brand and the innovative, high-quality, dependable cleaning products they produce,” said Sarah.

“I still use my own original Kobold vacuum cleaner that’s 25 years-old and works just as effectively as ever. The cleaning team at our wedding venue, Rise Hall in East Yorkshire, also use them day in, day out.

“Starting my career as a sales adviser with Vorwerk and actually selling their products means I have experienced their amazing cleaning capability first-hand and am a genuine fan of the brand.

“It’s fantastic to be working with Vorwerk again. It’s an exciting year for the brand as it continues to raise its profile of designing a one-of-a-kind piece of cleaning technology across the UK.”

Thomas Henningsson, of Vorwerk, added: “Sarah is known across the country for her passion and enthusiasm for homes, interiors and design. With her commitment to Vorwerk there is no better person to be our ambassador in the UK.”

Vorwerk has a 130-year history developing and manufacturing high-quality household products that last  a lifetime with millions of satisfied customers worldwide.

The company is unique in that it offers home demonstrations of its products, particularly its signature machine, the Kobold VK200, which is not only a conventional vacuum but also mops and vacuums at the same time with its DuoClean head.

It’s a rare company too in that customers get face-to-face, in depth, first-hand demonstrations so that they understand just what Vorwerk’s range of high-quality products can do for their homes. These are managed by a dedicated team of sales advisors, just like Sarah used to be.

Direct selling roles at Vorwerk – which has recently launched an office based in Dartford, Kent, with Gravesend couple Katie Vine and Dean Cowell at the helm – cater for men or women who are wanting to supplement their income, working mums and dads who are keen for flexible working hours, have childcare commitments or for people looking ahead to university or college.

And as an ambassador for Vorwerk, Sarah is also supporting the firm’s efforts to recruit sales advisors.

It’s the perfect role if you want a job that you can fit around your life – if you want to go on a two-week holiday, or watch your children’s football match – you can. If you simply want some extra spending money, or if you want to build a career, you can. You have the choice with Vorwerk.

Vorwerk is looking for the next generation to follow in Sarah’s footsteps. With branches all across the UK, including Kent and Berkshire, the brand offers the opportunity for flexible hours, the chance to ‘be your own boss’ and the training to not only start out as a direct sales advisor but be given the tools to manage your own team.
